Alberth Elis Celtic transfer news as Boavista up long-term Parkhead target's asking price after impressive season

Celtic have been warned they will need to stump up £8.5 million to land long-term target Alberth Elis after Boavista upped their star's asking price.

Celtic have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old for over a year now and reportedly had a £3million bid for him rejected when he was playing in the MLS.

Elis eventually moved to Portugal instead and has been widely praised for his performances this season where he helped save the Porto club from relegation after netting eight goals for Boavista.

Portuguese reports have suggested Celtic remain interested, as well as city rivals Porto and English teams Brighton and Watford.

But he's got three years left of his contract and Boavista want 10 million Euros for their star man, around £8.5 million.

Last year when he was at Houston Dynamo, Elis revealed he asked former Parkhead favourite, Emilio Izaguirre, for the low down on the Hoops and he waited for Celtic to up their original offer.

He said: "When I first played for Honduras I asked Emilio to recommend me to Celtic. In fact, always ask him that!

"There are clubs who would be nice to play for because they are always challenging for titles and Cups.

"I have spoken to Emilio about Celtic and he's told me they are at another level.

"For me, since the day I left Olimpica, I've never hidden the fact that my dream is to go and play in Europe and compete in the Champions League."
