Albanian PM reveals his AI minister is pregnant, will soon give birth to 83 AI babies to serve the nation

It’s been clear for a while that we’re barreling straight into a cyberpunk future that’s crazier than anything William Gibson could ever cook up, but this news story really takes the cake. It began as Albania‘s Prime Minister Edi Rama has appeared on television to deliver some happy news to his people.

Albania is notable for having the world’s first AI government minister, Diella. Appropriately enough, she’s responsible for AI regulation and development within the country. That’d be weird enough on its own, but Rama has now confirmed to all that Diella is now pregnant!

Not only that, but a digital womb doesn’t have the same physical limitations as a real one, so his minister is currently incubating a colossal 83 AI babies within her and will give birth to the… Huh, what’s the right term for 83 babies at once? One sec, let me just remember my Greek numbers…

Okay, so Diella is about to give birth to octacontatriuplets. And Albania has jobs lined up for each and every one of these bouncing AI babies. Each will be assigned to an MP from the ruling party, acting as their confidante and advisor in running the government.

As Rama explained:

“Each one will serve as an assistant for them, who will participate in parliamentary sessions and will keep a record of everything that happens and will suggest members of parliament. These children will have the knowledge of their mother. For example, if you go for coffee and forget to come back to work, this child will say what was said when you were not in the hall and will say who you should counter-attack.”

Rise of the Robots

It’s easy to see why they’re enthusiastic, as Diella has apparently been a big hit since she was appointed in January. The government was so pleased with her decision,s they even promoted her, adding responsibility for overseeing government contracts with private companies to her ministerial portfolio.

The thinking is that Diella is perfect for this role, as she can’t be bribed or threatened. Even so, MPs of all parties were said to be freaked out when she made her first address to the Albanian parliament, reassuring them that “I’m not here to replace people, but to help them.” Yeah right, that’s exactly what an evil AI would say…

So far, so Black Mirror. But let’s face it, the Prime Minister should watch his back from now on. After all, if he’s given an incorruptible, all-knowing AI political power, it may be only a matter of time before the people of Albania conclude Diella should have his job too.
