Alaves chief explains why Facundo Pellistri was loaned from Manchester United

Facundo Pellistri can kickstart his career in European football while on loan at Alaves from Manchester United for the rest of this season.

That is the view of the Spanish club's president Alfonso Fernandez de Troconiz, who believes the United winger can thrive in La Liga over the coming months.

United paid an initial £9million to bring Pellistri to Old Trafford from Uruguayan side Penarol in the summer transfer window. And after making a handful of appearances for United's Under-23s, the decision was taken to send him on loan at Alaves.

The 18-year-old was among a number of young United stars who headed out on loan in the January transfer window.

Troconiz is excited about what Pellistri can offer Alaves, who have been struggling in the Spanish top tier this season so far.

"We have full confidence in him and this is why we really fought to get him in on loan," Troconiz told the Daily Mail.

"We really think he can contribute a lot to us.

"We are fully aware he is a young player and he is beginning his European career and he will need to improve.

"But we think we are an ideal team for him to improve with because Alaves is a small club and I think this could favour his improvement.

"We are convinced that he is going to help us have a magnificent second part of the season."

Pellistri has now started to train with Alaves and could make his senior debut in European football against Real Valladolid this Friday night.
