TV presenter Alastair Stewart has revealed he will not be able to host his GB News show for a “while” after he broke his hip.

The veteran journalist, 69, shared the news with his followers on Twitter on Friday morning.

He wrote: “#BreakingNews: I won’t be hosting #AlastairStewartAndFriends on this weekend due to……. a broken hip!

“I fear it’ll be a while but I’ll be back!!! Thanks for kindness & support to all at @GBNEWS, the brilliant Anita @AnitaLandLtd & my extraordinary family.”

Stewart was met with hundreds of replies from his followers and colleagues who wished him a speedy recovery.

Among the sea of comments, fans wrote: “Sorry to hear that Alastair. Hope you make a full and speedy recovery and that you feel better soon. You’ll be missed during your hiatus and hopefully it’s not too long before you’re well enough to return.”

Others added: “So very sorry to hear this. What extraordinarily rotten luck Wishing you the speediest possibly recovery and a welcome return to our screens soon.”

“Oh no, that’s awful news. Wishing you a speedy recovery. You’ll be missed , looking forward to you getting back to our telly soon.”

“I feel your pain. I fell and broke my hip last year. Excruciating. Get well soon.”

It comes as the show’s audience is said to have fallen to zero at 5pm on Wednesday, during a programme co-hosted by ex-BBC presenter Simon McCoy and former Ukip spokesperson Alex Phillips, according to official television audience figures produced by rating agency Barb.

The sudden drop in viewers came after Guto Harri took the knee following the racist abuse from fans towards England’s black football players.

GB News described Mr Harri’s actions as “an unacceptable breach of our standards” and declined to say whether the former spokesperson for Boris Johnson was still with the channel.
