Good Morning Britain viewers were seriously divided on Monday as Alastair Campbell started his stint as guest host on the show, with some claiming he was an 'upgrade' on Piers Morgan but others switching over straight away.
Tony Blair's former press secretary is presenting the show for three consecutive days this week, with his surprising new role coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Week.
Prior to Alastair's arrival on GMB, his new co-host Susanna Reid predicted he'd "provoke strong reaction and lively debate," and he certainly did that on social media, with viewers flocking to Twitter within minutes of his debut on Monday to make their feelings known.
And, while some impressed fans said Campbell had finally made the show interesting again after Piers Morgan's departure, others said he made them want to immediately change the channel.
Very much in favour of Alastair as a GMB presenter, one viewer tweeted: "good move getting Alastair Campbell on as Susanna Reid 'side kick'. Intelligent, controversial and able to string complicated questions into a easy to understand point."
Equally impressed, a second reacted: "What an upgrade Alastair Campbell is on Piers Morgan, might actually start watching GMB a bit more regularly," and, echoing those exact sentiments, a third tweeted: "One day in and Alastair Campbell is a brilliant Bloke better than Piers Morgan
Very much at the other end of the spectrum, one viewer blasted: "That dreadful programme #GMB @GMB has now got an even worse presenter than that Morgan chap," and, in agreement, another critic ranted: "Surely Alastair Campbell isn’t a permanent appointment on #GMB he’s more wooden than Sherwood Forest!
Piers himself reacted to news of Alastair's GMB gig by warning him to "hold back," and mentioning the show's former host in their damning critique of Alastair, another angry GMB viewer posted: "Oh please GMB! Alastair Campbell! It’s like having Mr Dead from Harry Enfield as a presenter
"You lost the best presenter you ever had when you so stupidly let Piers walk! Now swallow your stupidity and bring him back or collapse in to the black hole you’re half way in to!"
