Alastair Campbell makes GMB debut in Piers Morgan's seat

Alastair Campbell has made his first appearance as a guest host on Good Morning Britain, taking Piers Morgan's seat.

Morgan quit earlier this year after a row over his comments on Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Now Campbell, the former Labour spin doctor under Tony Blair, is hosting GMB as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

While he won over many fans, who wanted him to remain on the show, others confessed they were not sold, reports The Mirror.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "I was dreading Alistair Campbell on #GMB but he has made some good points."

Another agreed: "I hope @campbellclaret is going to be permanent fixture on #gmb. A professional."

A third added: "Can we keep @campbellclaret please, @GMB?"

Meanwhile a fourth wrote: "I hope Alistair Campbell isn’t going to be a permanent fixture on #GMB. Absolutely no personality. I’d rather have #piersmorgan back and I couldn’t stand him either."

A fifth tweet read: "Alastair Campbell has well and truly killed off Good Morning Britain."

Since Piers' exit in March, he hasn't been replaced as a full-time host with other presenters taking it in turns including Alex Beresford, Ben Shephard and Adil Ray.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
