Alastair Campbell accidentally announces death of The Queen on GMB

Good Morning Britain's Alastair Campbell was forced to apologise after accidentally saying The Queen had died during an interview on the ITV morning show.

Alastair, who is the son of Scottish veterinary surgeon, Donald Campbell, and his wife Elizabeth, meant to refer to the death of her husband, Prince Philip.

However, fans online were left confused and shocked after the guest presenter made the huge mistake during a chat with former footballer Vinnie Jones about grief, following the loss of his wife Tanya Jones in 2019.

He said: "We talked a lot about Prince Philip, you know obviously after the death of the Queen and one of the phrases that kept being used was something she said after September 11 - that statement that we had to take to New York."

"Grief is the prize we have to pay for love. And that's kind of what comes out of your book."

Realising what he said, and possibly prompted by the production team who told him via his earpiece, a minute later he apologised.

He said: "Sorry, I think I may have just announced the death of the Queen. I meant Prince Philip."

Susanna tried to make he blunder seem less grave by saying: "It's ok, people knew what you meant" before moving on.

Unfortunately not everyone did know what Alastair was talking about and on social media one said: "Has the Queen died? Oh no, oh my god why has it been announced by GMB?"

Another wrote: "According to Alistair Campbell the Queen died !!!"

And someone else questioned: "Please Confirm @GMB is the Queen dead ??" @GMB "
