If you've put peppers in the microwave, you could be putting yourself at serious risk of burning your eyes and throat.

It's not all types of peppers which are problematic, it's just those of the spicy variety.

In particular, blasting peppers in the microwave can carry a health and safety risk.

Heating them in the microwave could potentially set them on fire, or lead to the release of a dangerous chemical.

This is because the capsaicin, which is the chemical which makes hot peppers hot, is released during the heating process.

Capsaicin is an active component of chili peppers. It is a chemical irritant for mammals, including us humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact.

With many people enjoying varying levels of spiciness, there is demand for capsaicin-spiced products like chili pepper and hot sauces like Tabasco and salsa.

But after heating them in the microwave and opening the microwave door, you could feel a burning sensation in your eyes and throat.

The microwave releases the capsaicin into the air, and according to The Healthy, once airborne, those chemicals can be painful.

The effect heated peppers can have is similar to that of pepper spray.

And, like eggs, peppers can also explode when heated too quickly in the microwave, which poses another risk.
