Alarming photos show young boys scaling steep Edinburgh rock face amid lockdown

Passersby were left alarmed when they spotted youngsters scaling a steep rock face in Edinburgh while the country remains in lockdown.

Photos taken on Friday show two boys "free-climbing" Agassiz Rock, located on the south side of Blackford Hill.

An easily accessible bouldering spot in the capital, the pair appeared to be attempting the climb - with one youngster at around 50ft up - without any safety equipment.

A local charity has warned the spot is not easily accessible for emergency services (Friends of the Hermitage of Braid & Blackford Hil)

Local charity Friends of the Hermitage of Braid & Blackford Hil shared the concerning photos to social media, noting that the location is not easily accessible in the event of an emergency.

The post read: "We have received a note expressing concern about youngsters free-climbing the steep rock face on the side off Agassiz Rock in the Hermitage.

"Whilst everyone is free to take such potentially serious risks in the natural world, parents might do well to remind their children that rescue, in the event of an accident, is likely to be rather slow and difficult to organise as the location is not immediately accessible to emergency vehicles and mobile reception cannot be assured in this location."

One local commented: "Definitely no rope involved and it didn't look like experienced climbing to me."

"There are places to practice climbing in a safe and controlled manner. I know I wouldn't want my kids risking their lives by fooling around on a steep rock wall like this", she added.

"But who would want to be taking risks at tis time?", asked another.
