Alarming footage captures teen driver in 80mph chase with cops on 30mph roads

A teen reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone before he crashed into the wall of a children's nursery.

Cops have released footage showing Zain Anwar, 19, almost triple the legal speed limit in a Toyota Auris.

Officers say Anwar, from Rochdale, overtook other motorists during the early-hours pursuit in the rain, and after crashing ran away from the scene, reports the Manchester Evening News. He was eventually tracked down and arrested after cops scoured CCTV cameras and the car he was driving, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Footage recorded from the dash-cam on board the motor he was driving was also released and showed the moment of impact when the car ploughed up the pavement, over a flowerbed into a fence and wall of the nursery.

Anwar pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

And at the sentencing hearing, Anwar was jailed for six months, suspended for 18 months, and banned from the road.

The incident happened when cops from the Lancashire Police's Rural Task Force, requested the Toyota Auris to stop, in the early hours of September 3, 2022.

A force spokesman said: "The Auris sped off and reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking other vehicles.

"When the driver attempted to negotiate a corner at speed, he lost control of the car and it collided with the wall of a children’s nursery on Market Street, causing a great deal of damage.

"Zain Anwar, 18, who had been behind the wheel, fled the scene but was traced with the help of CCTV footage.

"Anwar, of Birkdale Road, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

"At Burnley Crown Court, he was banned from driving for 18 months and will have to pass an extended driving test. Anwar was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months."
