BHOPAL: Three in ten people being tested for Covid-19 in Bhopal are turning out to be infected. Positivity rate in the Madhya Pradesh state capital rose to 30.53%, according to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reporting.
As many as 2,128 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Bhopal on Monday. The highest single-day jump did not result in increase in hospitalization. Critical care patients declined by four to 40. Those in hospital remain incidental admissions to a large extent, according to experts.
Bhopal now has 12,674 active cases of the infection. Around 290 were hospitalised going by health department data. Going by the current trend, experts estimate that the dip in infections could be seen by next week and by mid-February cases could decline to double digit per day. RTPCR testing and delay in reporting is also been cited as one of the reasons for the rise in numbers.
In the second Covid-19 wave last year, 1,853 cases were diagnosed which was the highest single day number reported in April 2021. An elderly woman around 80 was deemed as a Covid-19 death. Around 1,011 people have died due to Covid since March 2020 in Bhopal. Some 1.44 lakh people have been diagnosed with the infection in the same period while 1.31 lakh have recovered. For the month of January, Bhopal infection rate has been the highest since the pandemic began. Around 130 people were in hospitalized in Covid-19 wards. About 118 needed oxygen support and About three dozen were deemed to be in critical care.
