Alarm as Politkovskaya investigator is replaced

The lead investigator into the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya has been replaced. Her former colleagues at Novaya Gazeta claim it smacks of political interference. The paper says the chief investigator into her killing, Pyotr Gabriyan, has been replaced by a more senior official, a move alleged to have been orchestrated by the siloviki, a Kremlin group that controls intelligence, law enforcement and the military.
