Alan Titchmarsh left in tears over dad’s devastating diagnosis on Love Your Garden

Alan Titchmarsh couldn't hold back the tears after hearing about a dad's devastating diagnosis on his show.

ITV's Love Your Garden turned very emotional on Tuesday when the 74-year-old turned up to help a family transform their outdoor space.

He ended up having his heart broken after heading to Nottinghamshire where he met Daniel Bradbury, 32, and the rest of his family.

The TV gardening legend chatted to his two children before things quickly took an unexpected turn.

Viewers of the show, which sees Alan and his team travel the country each week looking for people who need some help improving their gardens, were also overcome after chatting to the dad.

He quickly learned dad Daniel is one of the youngest people in the UK to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and couldn't keep it together.

Alan then told the rest of his team while he was planning the space: "The other thing we must remember while we're doing this is that Daniel was a landscape gardener when he was diagnosed.

"He's one of ours isn't he.." he said, trailing off as he was overcome with emotion and began to tear up.

"As one man of soil to another, I'm determined to give Daniel and his family a garden to be proud of."

The team set about taking the large, empty space, full of weeds and half dead grass, and turning it into a wonderland with figure of eight paths, trees, bushes, wildflowers, a garden room and a dining area, complete with pergola cover, working kitchen and a table and chairs.

It wasn't just those on the show left all emotional with viewers also reaching for the tissues (ITV1)

They even installed a water feature and a learning playhouse for the family's two toddlers.

Daniel was then invited to see the team's hard work and the unrecognisable transformation.

"Thank you very much," Daniel told Alan with tears in his eyes as he looked around the space while holding onto his wife and Alan for help standing up.

Alan then introduced Daniel to 'dad's apple tree', which Daniel was invited to place the final spade full of soil on to say he 'helped plant it', so that it would always be there for his kids.

The audience were equally as emotional as the host.

One wrote on twitter: "What a heartbreaking story on #LoveYourGarden tonight I hope he loves the finished product"

Another posted: "Just a few minutes into #Loveyourgarden and I'm in tears already. Dementia is a terrible disease but to have it at only 30 is devastating. The @LoveYourGarden2 team always do an incredible job and I know they will this time too."

Another told the presenter: "That is a magical garden, Alan. Simply stunning. Well done, everyone."
