Alan Thompson in bizarre Rangers 'cheat' blast as he reopens Peter Lovenkrands rivalry

Alan Thompson has reignited his rivalry with Peter Lovenkrands by branding him a cheat in a bizarre Twitter outburst.

The former Celtic star took to the social media site to criticise the ex-Rangers frontman over an incident that happened almost 17 years ago.

Thompson was sent off for an alleged headbutt on the Danish attacker during a 2-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in November 2004.

Lovenkrands was criticised for how easily he went down, but Thompson's appeal against the red card was rejected by the SFA and he was suspended.

But he's taken to Twitter to call Lovenkrands a cheat again as he shared a signed photo of the incident, which included a previous tweet of Thompson taking a dig at him.

Thompson had previously tweeted Lovenkrands to call him a '100% coward' and it's fair to say he's still angry about the incident.

Thompson and Lovenkrands were at Newcastle together in 2010 when the former England winger was reserve coach.

And at the time, he insisted it was all forgotten about as he said: "It's water under the bridge now. But you look back on it and we have a physio here who was at Rangers at the time and he had it up on the internet the other day. We were all having a laugh.

"You look at it and think, 'God, did that really happen?'

"It's like watching a different person now.

"Yeah, we've had a couple of laughs about it.

"But you get carried away during the match. It's easy to get wound up and there are players who are good at that!"
