Alan Sugar has threatened legal action against Jamie Redknapp after the former Spurs star appeared to criticise his ownership of Tottenham.

Redknapp, 52, sat down with Sky Sports as he talked about the sudden departure of the club's chairman Daniel Levy last week.

He had nothing but praise for Levy, 63, who he credited with turning the club into a financial success with a glowing future after his 24 years at the helm.

Redknapp negatively referred to the state of the club as it was left by Alan Sugar following his decade as chairman and co-owner from 1991 to 2001, describing it as a "total mess".

Lord Sugar, 78, hit back on social media with threats of legal action against "double barrel idiot" Redknapp and Sky.

He posted on X: "Jamie Redknapp is a double barrel idiot. He talks a load of rubbish. He said when Daniel Levy took over Spurs Alan Sugar left the club in a right mess. He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday."

The tweet has been liked almost 8,000 times and Lord Sugar followed it up with a further threat one hour later, posting: "I am coming after you @MrJamieRedknapp idiot."

Representatives for Alan Sugar and Jamie Redknapp have been contacted.

As a pundit for Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp takes a keen interest in the fortunes of his old club Tottenham Hotspur and took issue with Spurs’ former coach Ange Postecoglou in February after the team lost 4-0 to Liverpool.

Redknapp was critical of the Spurs players but also Postecoglou strategy, as he pointed to the fact Djed Spence started at left-back but then had a spell on the right wing in the second-half.

The pundit said: “I can't remember in my lifetime a team go down with less of a fight than Tottenham did today. Not having any shot on target in a semi-final second leg when trying to change the course of your history.”

But Postecoglou appeared to bat off the criticism, saying he “did not care” what others thought. He departed from the club in June.

Tottenham’s fortunes have since gone up, with a 3-0 victory over West Ham at London Stadium yesterday.
