Alan Soutar PDC World Championship fairytale crashes to a halt as classy Calllan Rydz sends Scot packing

Alan Soutar had his fairytale run at the William Hill World Championships ended by classy Callan Rydz.

The Arbroath ace was unable to book a place in the last eight at the Alexandra Palace having been hit by the fast-moving Geordie juggernaut.

Soutar had beaten Diogo Portela before taking the scalps of big guns Mensur Suljovic and Jose De Sousa to set up the final 16 crunch with Rydz.

But the 23-year-old Englishman was too strong and continued his own spectacular charge at the title in superb style.

Rydz dropped his very first set of the entire tournament when Soutar grabbed the opener.

However, from that point, it was one-way traffic with the rapid and relentless Rydz rattling off four straight sets to dash Soutar’s hopes.

It's been a wonderful tournament for part-time darts star and full-time fireman Soutar but it ends at the round of 16 stage.

Rydz could play Soutar's fellow Scot Peter Wright in the quarter-final if he beats Ryan Searle later on Thursday.
