Alan Shearer wishes Chris Wood good luck as striker signs for Newcastle United

Alan Shearer has wished Chris Wood luck after the striker completed a move to Newcastle United.

The Magpies' all-time record goalscorer is known to be a big fan of Wood and took to social media to congratulate him on his move to Tyneside.

Taking to Twitter, Shearer posted: 'Congratulations and good luck.'

Shearer has spoken previously about Wood and pointed out how his attributes were going to be a big help to Burnley's chances of survival.

"I like him, I like what he does for the team and he is the focal point for them. He is very good at occupying two centre halves.

"He is a get out for Burnley if they want because they are not afraid to knock it long.

"He can keep hold of it and bring other players into the game.

"He is horrible to play against and he won't give defenders a moment's peace."

Wood arrives at Newcastle in time to face Watford in what is a must-win game at St James' Park this Saturday.

The 30-year-old comes in and fills the void left by Callum Wilson who was injured in the clash with Manchester United and has been ruled out for eight weeks.

Wood has previously spoken about his affection for Shearer - naming him in his dream XI.

"Alan Shearer was undoubtedly the best goalscorer in the Premier League," he told Premier League uncut.

Fans have responded favourably to the arrival of Wood who will now have the task of firing Newcastle to safety.
