Alan Shearer sick of what 'empty' Newcastle have become as he hammers policy

Alan Shearer has admitted he is 'sick' of what Newcastle United have become as an 'empty football club'.

The Magpies currently lie in 19th place in the table and, already, it is hard to see this season being anything but another relegation scrap.

Newcastle suffered a 4-1 defeat against Manchester United on Saturday and the away end made their feelings clear towards both owner Mike Ashley and head coach Steve Bruce at Old Trafford.

Bruce had been left frustrated, himself, after he was unable to make any further additions to actually strengthen his squad following the arrival of Joe Willock on a permanent deal last month.

A lack of interest in the club's fringe players, who are all tied to sizeable contracts, proved costly and Shearer has long tired of how the club operates.

"I hate what my club is or has become," he told Match of the Day. "It's been a long time now. It's a hollow and it's an empty football club. There's no hope or ambition and I'm pretty sick of it to be honest. It's copy, paste, repeat every season.

"They give players that have been at the football club new contracts because they can't sell them on then they have the excuse that they can't bring other players into the football club because those players are being paid a salary.

"It's cheaper to keep them on the books rather than buying other players and the fans deserve better. Every manager has the same problems. As I said, it's copy, paste, repeat every season."
