Alan Shearer shares 'amazing' Celtic and Rangers Premier League dream

Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer has given his thoughts on Celtic and Rangers potentially joining the Premier League.

The 53-year-old insists it would be "amazing" to see both Glasgow clubs in the top flight down south, pointing to the support each side has.

However, he also admits the proposal is unlikely. Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, he said: "With the size of those two giant football clubs. It would only enhance our league for the better.

"The atmosphere in those grounds is amazing.  The support they have around the world is fantastic, so they are two giant clubs.

"Absolutely, it would be brilliant if they could be in the Premier League. But I don’t think we are ever going to see it – it’s never going to happen.”

Meanwhile, Andy Walker insists Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo has earned a "new level of respect" after his recent performances.

The Benfica loanee has thrived over the last three matches, scoring against both Dundee and Rangers and also being named player of the match after his two assists against St Mirren.

And Walker feels the Portugal under-21 international can get even better.

“I thought he was terrific," he told Go Radio "I think it’s the type of goal that makes everyone, just the perception of him, he is given a new level of respect.

“Much of the same, what are Celtic getting with Reo Hatate when he signed? And then he scored two goals against Rangers in February when Celtic won 3-0, the perception of him immediately changed.

"Here is a guy who can play football. That can play really good passes. But he can score goals on the big occasions and lead the team.

“I think that’s what you are getting with Bernardo. When you look at the two he is playing alongside in the middle of the park. Arguably two of Celtic’s best players this season.”
