Alan Shearer has praised Joe Willock after the Arsenal loanee matched the Newcastle United legend's long-standing scoring record.
Willock has been an instant success in the north east following his January loan move from the Emirates Stadium, helping comfortably keep the Magpies in the Premier League despite relegation concerns at the turn of the year.
The 21-year-old's first goal in the black and white came against Southampton on February 6, before waiting until April 4 until he netted again - in the 2-2 home draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
But that goal against Spurs kick-started a now record-equalling run for the Magpies, and one set by the legendary Shearer way back in 1996.
The Arsenal youngster scored the opener in the final day clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage today (Sunday) to make it seven games in succession he has found the back of the net.
Those goals have come against Spurs, West Ham, Liverpool, Leicester City, Man City, Sheffield United and his latest against the Cottagers.
After matching Shearer's 25-year record, the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer took to Twitter to share his appreciation.
"Yesssssss @Joewillock again," Shearer posted. "7 on the spin." The tweet was also accompanied by four clapping hand emojis.
Willock, whose Arsenal future is uncertain with Newcastle keen for him to return, got his latst goal by breaking from midway inside his own half at Craven Cottage before firing home.
Shearer has made no secret of his desire to see Willock back at St James' Park next season.
He said on Newcastle United Supporters' Trust's end of season talk-in: "I think the standout signing is obvious, it's staring us in the face and we have him already.
"I jokingly said on Match of the Day the other night about playing a for a big club, but there's a little bit of truth in it.
"I would love him to come and sample 52,000 at St James' Park when it's rocking, when it's going well and we're getting the right results.
"The reception one of his goals would get... I think it's an absolute no-brainer.
"Newcastle have to try and break the bank and get him here. Whether we will or not, I don't know, but I bloody well hope so."
