Alan Shearer sends clear message to Harry Kane over his Tottenham future amid Man City links

Alan Shearer says he would seriously consider leaving Tottenham Hotspur if he were in Harry Kane's position.

Kane has been strongly linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Manchester United and Manchester City among the clubs named as potential suitors for the England captain.

The Tottenham striker recently fuelled speculation over his future by discussing his ambition to win trophies, which he is yet to do at Spurs, who have not won silverware since 2008.

And Shearer has said that Tottenham's recent performances, including in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City and their 3-1 defeat against Leeds United in the Premier League yesterday, show that Spurs are no closer to winning trophies.

"When I left Blackburn, I had a season after we won the title, and we were nowhere near winning the title," the former Newcastle United and England striker said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day.

"That sort of made my mind up, because I wanted to go on and do things.

"If Harry [Kane] wants an excuse, then Tottenham and that team are giving him one. They didn't show up for the [Carabao Cup] final, they didn't show up again today.

"If I was in his position, I would look to go elsewhere to try and win some trophies."
