Alan Shearer says one Newcastle player had his 'best game' in 2-2 draw with Spurs

Alan Shearer reckons Newcastle United's last-gasp point against top four chasing Tottenham was deserved.

United needed another late goal to rescue a point at home - this time Joe Willock netting the equaliser which could prove to be a vital goal come the end of the season.

Joelinton had put Newcastle up with 28 minutes on the clock - and the current number nine was praised by arguably the club's great ever number nine.

"A point was the least Newcastle deserved," Shearer wrote on Twitter.

" A much better performance - Joelinton had his best game in a black and white shirt.

"Well done Joe Willock."

Newcastle were the better side when they took the lead but switched off after the goal and allowed Harry Kane to score two in four minutes. The Magpies had chances - Dwight Gayle forcing two saves from Hugo Lloris, while Joelinton fired wide from close range in a game in which neither defence really was up to standard.

Kane nearly got a hat-trick as he forced a save from Dubravka from close range before hitting the post - moments later before Willock, who had just been brought from the bench, tapped home an equaliser.

Ritchie had whipped the ball in, Joelinton nodded it back across the box and it finally fell to Willock - on loan from Arsenal - to tap home.

It leaves Newcastle three points above the relegation zone but still with only two wins in the last 21 games.
