Alan Shearer says Man City striker "justified" Pep Guardiola's faith after missing out on Ronaldo and Kane

After a disappointing week on the transfer front, Manchester City duly delivered on the pitch over the weekend with a second consecutive 5-0 victory in the Premier League.

Three members of Pep Guardiola's side were singled out for praise by former striker Alan Shearer, who included them in his Premier League team of the week.

City missed out on both Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo's signature last week, with the former opting to stay at Tottenham and the latter joining rivals Manchester United.

But that did not stop the club's current attacking talent from running riot against Arsenal on Saturday by scoring five goals in a dominant performance.

Shearer picked out three City's stars worthy of being included in the division's best XI from gameweek two, with Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres receiving recognition.

The England legend explained his picks on the Premier League's official website, suggesting that one of City's players went a long to justifying the faith Guardiola put in him.

"[Gundogan] got the scoring under way and ran the midfield as the champions ran riot against Arsenal for their third 5-0 home league win in a row," Shearer said.

"[Jesus] justified Pep Guardiola's continued faith in him with a goal as well as another superb assist - his third of the season.

"[Torres] showed great movement as he scored twice and produced an assist."

City are unlikely to have a busy deadline day in this summer's transfer window and it appears Guardiola will have to stick with what he has at his disposal.

However, based on Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres' recent form, that might not be that much of a worry for the Catalan in his quest to retain the Premier League title.

Despite missing out on two crucial targets, City's Arsenal performance proved they still have ample quality in the squad.
