Alan Shearer's selfless quip when Lineker tells him Arsenal won't let Willock go to Newcastle

Alan Shearer has quipped that Joe Willock is free to break any of his records if the Arsenal loanee decides to stay at Newcastle United.

Willock equalled one of Shearer's many feats for the Magpies against Fulham on Sunday after the midfielder scored in seven consecutive Premier League games.

That 2-0 final day win at Craven Cottage was a bittersweet occasion for the in-form Willock, who will not have wanted this season to end.

Willock is now set to go on holiday before sitting down with his father, Charles, who is also his representative, to decide what will be the best move for him.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta expects Willock to return to the Emirates next season, but Steve Bruce has vowed to at least test the Gunners' resolve this summer.

Shearer would dearly love Willock to extend his stay at Newcastle and the Magpies' legend has repeatedly told Ian Wright, the Londoner's mentor, that if he ever wants anything, his' number is there'.

Willock unsurprisingly dominated Match of the Day's post-match analysis of Newcastle's victory against Fulham and here is a snippet of Shearer's amusing exchange with Wright and host Gary Lineker.

AS: "They [Newcastle] have to try and break the bank and be desperate to try and keep hold of him and sign him."

IW: "We [Arsenal] need him."

GL: "Arsenal won't let him. They'll want him back, won't they?

AS: "He's having fun in that Newcastle shirt."

GL: "But he'll break your record if he plays the first game next season!"

AS: "Let him break any record that I've got! I'd be delighted for him."
