Alan Shearer's on the whistle verdict at an injury hit Newcastle United draw at Wolves

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes that the club gained a 'very good point' away at Wolves.

The Magpies injury crisis continued with Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle both forced off early in the first half - and Shearer believes this factor means the result is a positive one.

Miguel Almiron had given United the lead after just seven minutes, putting home with a right-footed finish after good work from Gayle.

But United's strong start was disrupted by Dummett going off - Leander Dendoncker scoring moments later.

From that point in Newcastle really struggled to threaten Wolves, and other than the goal - had zero efforts on target.

The Magpies also had Martin Dubravka to thank, yet again, for saving them, with the goalkeeper making two fantastic saves from Neto.

Given that Isaac Hayden was in at right-wing-back, and the depleted squad that Bruce had to choose from - Shearer was happy with a point.

Shearer took to social media: "Given more injuries and players playing out of position that’s a very good point for Newcastle United against a very good Wolves team."
