Alan Shearer's Newcastle United message after West Ham United win

Alan Shearer was clearly delighted by Newcastle United's dramatic victory over West Ham.

The Magpies secured a 3-2 victory thanks to Joe Willock's late header after they had let a two-goal lead slip against a 10-man West Ham side.

Newcastle capitalised on some uncharacteristic West Ham defensive errors in the first half to take a 2-0 lead thanks to an own goal and Joelinton finding the net, with Hammers defender Craig Dawson seeing red for two bookable offences.

Yet a nervy second-half performance allowed West Ham back into the game before Willock's late winner, which moved the Magpies nine points clear of the bottom three.

'Hints that Bruce is already planning for next season' - Lee Ryder on Steve Bruce

It was a result that clearly left Shearer delighted as he celebrated on social media post-match.

"Yesssssssssssssssss," he tweeted, followed by numerous black and white emojis.

The win also sees Steve Bruce's side leapfrog Burnley and Brighton in the Premier League table and could also mean Sheffield United's relegation is confirmed if they fail to beat Wolves later this evening.

Shearer had previously claimed that the relegation battle was a straight shootout between Fulham and the Magpies and would go down to the wire, with the two sides facing each other in the last game of the season.

Yet back-to-back victories for the Magpies have opened up a large gap over Fulham, who continued to struggle to pick up points.

Victory over West Ham also means Newcastle have lost just one of their last seven matches, although four of those games ended up being draws.

The three points also come at a vital time, with what looks to be a tough run of games ahead, starting with facing Liverpool next Saturday.
