Alan Shearer's message to Newcastle United squad ahead of Manchester United clash

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has urged the club's players to put on a show in tonight's game against Manchester United.

Shearer took to social media ahead of the clash at St James' Park to reveal his excitement for the sold-out game - one in which supporters' group Wor Flags has urged fans to bring a black and white scarf to wave and create an atmosphere.

Posting on Twitter, Shearer wrote: "HWTL - Looking forward to a packed St James Park tonight.

"Commmeeeeeeoonnnn lads give us something to shout about."

Newcastle have only won once this season - a one-nil win over Burnley - and are in desperate need of three points.

The club's home form since Eddie Howe's arrival has been okay with the Magpies losing only once under his tenure, but the new head coach is well aware that draws have to be turned into wins if the safety is to be secured.

Speaking earlier this month, Howe commented on the need for wins.

"Draws are all well and good for us but in our current position, we need to turn more draws into wins.

"That's the challenge we are going to face in the second half of the season."
