Alan Shearer's message for Newcastle's Allan Saint-Maximin and key area where he can improve

Alan Shearer believes Allan Saint-Maximin can 'blow a game wide open' but still has work to do if he's to reach his full potential.

The Newcastle United legend was picking out his most improved players of the season and highlighted Saint-Maximin as one who has progressed in the last 12 months.

Speaking to the Premier League, Shearer said: "Despite a tough time contracting COVID and a lengthy recovery, Allan Saint-Maximin continues to impress.

"He's fast, skilful, strong and not afraid to take other players on with the most dribbles per 90 minutes of any Newcastle player this season.

"And with that regard, he's up there with the Premier League's best."

But despite the Frenchman's great form of late, Shearer thinks Saint-Maximin still has another level to go to - if he improves that final ball.

"He can pick out a pass but also has the ability to blow a game wide open with a moment of brilliance.

"The fans can see he has bags of potential and gets people out of their seats but he has to work on his end product if he's to take his game to the next level."

Earlier this month, Shearer told BBC 5 Live that Callum Wilson alongside Saint-Maximin 'could do things no other player could' at Newcastle United.
