Alan Shearer has joked former Newcastle United forward Andy Cole was 'good but I am not sure he was that good' when asked whether he was the Magpies' greatest ever forward.
Shearer, of course, is Newcastle's record goalscorer having scored 206 goals in his 10 seasons at the club.
But before Shearer arrived on Tyneside in 1996, though, Les Ferdinand and before him, Cole were the club's leading marksmen.
Cole's goals helped Newcastle win promotion to the Premier League in 1993 before finishing third in their first Premier League campaign in 1993/94.
When Cole joined Manchester United midway through the 1994/95 season it sent shockwaves throughout the Premier League.
So when Shearer joined fellow BBC pundits Gary Lineker and Micah Richards to run through the Premier League's most shocking transfers on the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast, Cole's move to the Red Devils inevitably featured.
"It was such a surprise because the relationship he had with Peter Beardsley and the number of goals they were scoring," Shearer said.
And when Lineker jokingly asked whether if Cole stayed at Newcastle he would have been classed as the club's best ever striker, Shearer came up with an even better reply.
"He was a good player but I am not sure he was that good," Shearer joked.
"They knew what was coming along the line. They had Big Les [Ferdinand] and what a job he did!
"But what a finisher he was. Unbelievable."
