Alan Shearer predicts top-four race involving Chelsea, Leicester and Man Utd

Alan Shearer has predicted Manchester United are more likely to secure a top four finish than rivals Chelsea and Leicester City.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the league and squandered the chance to go third on Monday night as Southampton scored deep into injury time to draw 2-2 at Old Trafford.

Leicester currently edge United to fourth place on goal difference, though the Foxes have let their stranglehold on Champions League football slip with only one win in their six games since the restart.

And occupying the other top four spot up for grabs is Chelsea, who edge United and Leicester by one point but were well beaten by Sheffield United in their last outing.

With just three matches remaining in the Premier League season, Shearer believes one team holds an advantage based on their form and their fixture list.

"I think they ( Manchester United ) will be the favourites. They're the team that's going into it with form," Shearer told Premier League Productions.

"I know they'll have been disappointed with dropping points, but it's still in their hands.

"They win all three, they go into the top four. They've got the players to do that.

"It'll have been a bit of a blow for them this evening, but they'll dust themselves down and get ready for Thursday."

United travel to Crystal Palace and Leicester host Sheffield United on Thursday, while Chelsea return to action on Tuesday evening against relegated Norwich City.

The Blues have won four of their six games since the restart last month, but Shearer is concerned about their trip to the Premier League champions during the run-in.

The England legend added: "When you look at Chelsea, you'd almost guarantee they'll get three points against Norwich.

"But look at the game after that, they've got Liverpool away. So, fixtures-wise, Man United have probably got the better of the fixtures."
