Alan Shearer praises two Liverpool players after Leeds win in Premier League

Alan Shearer has picked out two Liverpool players for praise, following the Reds’ 3-0 win over Leeds at the weekend.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with his 100th Premier League goal, while Fabinho and Sadio Mane also got on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t the goalscorers who caught Shearer ’s eye.

The Newcastle United legend instead focussed his attention on the players who had provided the goals, as Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic away win.

Naming his Premier League team of the week , Shearer opted for Trent Alexander-Arnold in defence after another dynamic display from the 22-year old.

“Liverpool's right-back created the opening goal and did not put a foot wrong all match”, the ex-England striker said.

Alexander-Arnold’s performance followed an international break where he was placed in midfield by Gareth Southgate, with the full-back’s effectiveness at Elland Road demonstrating why Jurgen Klopp has refused to utilise him elsewhere.

Thiago Alcantara was the second Reds’ player on Shearer’s teamsheet, having made his first start of the season against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

“A wonderful array of passing throughout and he teed up Sadio Mane to score the final goal”, the Premier League’s record goalscorer said, explaining his inclusion.

Dictating the tempo of the game from midfield, the Spain international was vital in Liverpool overcoming Leeds’ intense pressing game and was lauded by the Premier League’s record goalscorer.

Though the game was ultimately overshadowed by Harvey Elliott’s injury, both players are well-deserving of their plaudits, after Jurgen Klopp’s side swept aside a tough test with relative ease.
