Newcastle United secured an opening day Premier League victory for the first time in eight years, thanks to goals from Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.
The debutants secured United all three points but on a whole the team performance was superb.
United dominated the first half but it was West Ham who had the best chances - hitting the bar twice via Pablo Fornals and Angelo Ogbonna.
Newcastle came out of the break in the same vein as they finished the first half with Andy Carroll being played in by Wilson only for the West Ham defence to clear.
The game quietened down until just before the hour mark when Wilson poked home a Hendrick knock-on, and then just before the finish, Hendrick fired into the top corner having being set-up by Miguel Almiron.
The performance left United legend Alan Shearer impressed as he took to social media to post: "A clean sheet, three points and goals for Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.
"A brilliant start for the toon."
The win leaves Newcastle second in the league!
