Alan Shearer praises Longstaff duo as Newcastle United defeat Manchester United

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer heaped praise on the Longstaff brothers after the duo played a crucial role in defeating Manchester United.

Sean Longstaff, long tipped for a move to Old Trafford, was paired with his brother in the middle of the park - and it was Matty who netted the only goal of the game.

The 19-year-old fired home with 72 minutes on the clock - a low drive from the edge of the box sending the Gallowgate and Shearer into a frenzy with the former no.9 writing: "Stttttriiiiiikkkeeeeeee Maaattttttyyyyy!."

Both Longstaff brothers impressed, and look to have started the perfect partnership in the centre of Newcastle's midfield.

Shearer was left impressed, and congratulated the pair and their family.

"What an amazing day for the Longstaff family. Well done and congratulations," he wrote.

His Match of the Day colleague Ian Wright also got in on the act.
