Alan Shearer perfectly sums up Newcastle fans' anger with Fabinho decision

Alan Shearer appeared as furious as the thousands of Newcastle fans waking up on Tyneside this morning after Fabinho was awarded a soft free-kick - which led to Liverpool's dramatic winner at St James' Park .

With just a few minutes to go, and the teams level at 2-2, Liverpool were given the decision after Fabinho went down in the corner after Matt Ritchie closed him down from behind.

Assistant referee Simon Long, who had a perfect view of the incident, immediately waved his flag in the air and a free-kick was awarded by referee Andre Marriner - much to Ritchie's frustration.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri stood over the dead ball before Virgil van Dijk instructed Alexander-Arnold to let the left-footed Shaqiri take an in-swinger - which Divock Origi duly headed home to break Newcastle hearts.

Although the Magpies' defending for the set-piece was slack - no other team has conceded more headed goals in the Premier League this season - debate raged about whether the free-kick should have been given post-match.

Jamie Carragher admitted 'it wasn't a foul' but believed it was 'clever' play from Fabinho. A disbelieving Graeme Souness, though, queried: 'What is the linesman seeing to give a foul there?”

Quoting a tweet from NBC commentator Arlo White, who admitted he was 'not sure' if it was a foul on Fabinho, Shearer simply said: 'Not sure?!' with an angry face emoji and a thinking face emoji attached.
