Alan Shearer on what Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have proved against Chelsea, Man United and Leeds

Mikel Arteta has proved that he can get a reaction from his players at Arsenal.

That's the verdict of former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer, who was full of praise for the Gunners' head coach and his charges after they won 1-0 against Leeds United in the FA Cup third round.

Reiss Nelson netted the only goal of the game at the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal putting in a much-improved second half display after being outplayed by the Championship leaders in the first half.

Leeds had 15 shots on goal in the first half in north London, with Patrick Bamford hitting the crossbar as the Whites dominated proceedings in the first 45, but failed to make the breakthrough.

But Shearer said Arteta helped instigate a positive response in the second half of the contest, as he said he has from his players in recent games against Chelsea and Manchester United.

“We said it at half time," Shearer said, speaking on BBC Sport's coverage of the FA Cup third round clash.

"He changed it around, he got a reaction from his players in the second half and he has had a reaction against Chelsea, and against Manchester United, and it is looking good for him.”
