Alan Shearer names the Arsenal star who was key to the turnaround against Aston Villa

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has said that Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was the key man in the club's second half turnaround against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Gunners' had to come from behind twice to claim the three points, with Unai Emery's men also down to 10-men since just before half time, when full back Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent his marching orders for a second yellow card in the 41st minute.

Arsenal went into the half time break one goal down thanks to a John Mcginn strike in the 20th minute, a Nicolas Pepe penalty drew them level, but Vllla had an instant reply through Wesley.

However, two late goals from Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the last 10 minutes of the game sent the Emirates into raptures and ensured that the three points would be Arsenal's.

And the Premier League's record goalscorer was full of praise for the second half performance, highlighting French midfielder Guendouzi for specific praise.

"When you consider they’re going down to ten men, their change in attitude was just incredible," Shearer said on Match of the Day 2.

"Saka came off, Chambers came on at half-time and all of a sudden you’ve got committing men forward, there’s more pace to their play and the intent was there.

“Guendouzi was absolutely magnificent in the second half, they needed a warrior and he stood up."

The midfielder has started all six of Arsenal's Premier League games so far this season, providing two assists, including the cross for Chambers' equaliser against Villa.
