Alan Shearer names Man City advantage over Manchester United in Harry Kane transfer pursuit

Alan Shearer has backed Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea to move for Harry Kane this summer.

The England captain recently informed the north London side of his desire to leave, which could spark a frenzy in the market for his services this summer.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to rule out a move for Kane or another striker in the transfer window, while City have Kane high on their list of striker targets, with Sergio Aguero set to depart.

Any move for Kane, who turns 28 in July, would likely exceed the £100m mark, as the forward penned a six-year deal in 2018 that has three years left to run.

However, following Spurs' defeat by Aston Villa on Wednesday which leaves their hopes of European football next year hanging by a thread, Shearer said Kane is within his rights to want more.

"I don’t think any Tottenham fan could hold it against him. He’s given absolutely everything for that football club and for all we know, he might have asked to leave last summer and they’ve persuaded him to stay one more year," he told BBC's Match of the Day.

"He’s been magnificent, look at the numbers - staggering, superb, any word you’d like to use. He’ll have some big-hitters after him, I have no doubt about that."

Shearer believes a move to City is more likely to guarantee team honours for Kane than a move to United or Chelsea.

"Man City will need someone, Man United will need someone, Chelsea will need someone. You’re guaranteed at Man City, I think, more than any other football club [to win things]. Whether they’re prepared to sell to them, at whatever fee, that’s a different question.”

Kane has excelled this season, leading the Premier League's scoring charts with 22 goals and the assists table with 13 to his name - one ahead of United's Bruno Fernandes.

Any move for Kane would likely be organised after England's exploits at this summer's European Championship.
