Alan Shearer makes Watford demand after Manchester City's 8-0 demolition

The Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer Alan Shearer has urged the Watford players to issue travelling fans with a refund after an 'amateur' performance against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Quique Sanchez Flores' side are still yet to pick up a victory this season and, after fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Arsenal last week, were unable to build upon that result against City .

Instead, Pep Guardiola's defending champions ran riot to put Watford to the sword - fighting back after a surprise defeat against Norwich City at Carrow Road last week.

As a result, former Newcastle United forward Shearer has demanded that the Watford squad issue refunds for the fans that made the journey up north for the match.

"They were sensational from start to finish. If you’re going to give them time on the ball, they’re going to cause you problems," he said on Match of the Day.

"But, from a Watford point of view, lack of effort, no desire to do the hard work, no pressure on the ball whatsoever.

"You can’t defend how they did – it’s bad, amateurish. This is a Man City team that had five or six goals and still had this hunger to get the ball back and get more goals.

"It should’ve been 12 or 13. Sensational from Man City but Watford should refund their fans on the back of that performance."
