Alan Shearer makes Mason Mount prediction ahead of England vs Croatia on Sunday

Alan Shearer believes Mason Mount will be included in England's starting line-up to face Croatia at Wembley on Sunday.

The Three Lions are preparing for their opening match of Euro 2020, where they face the side that knocked them out of the World Cup semi-finals in 2018.

There is plenty of competition amongst the 26-man England squad that Gareth Southgate selected, particularly in Mount's position.

The likes of Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka could challenge Mount for a start in Southgate's team, depending on where the manager decides to play him on the day.

The Blues star can play as part of a front three, or he can drop back into a deeper midfield position.

Shearer, when speaking on Rio Ferdinand's Vibe with FIVE podcast on Friday evening, has tipped Mount to start because he has been loved by every manager he's played under.

The Premier League's all-time leading goal scorer said: "Mason Mount, I'm pretty sure will start because every manager he's player for whether that's Frank, Tuchel or now Southgate, they all love him - and rightly so because of what he offers."

As Shearer mentioned, Mount appears to have been a big part under both Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard during their respective Chelsea tenures.

Tuchel described the 22-year-old as the "full package" when speaking last month.

He said: "He has the full packed, mentally, in terms of talent and physically.

"And the most important part is his character, he has his feet on the ground and he's a nice guy.

"He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new and have new experiences.

"He is the guy who can recover very fast, he's a very physical player and is fully adapted to Premier League football.

"He has big self confidence in a very, very positive way. It's a pleasure to have him, be at his side and guide him and support him.

"It's impressive, he's not affected by all the praise. This is maybe the most important part.

"He seems to be a guy who likes the sport, and feels an obligation to make the most out of it. And he wants it absolutely badly, so it's a top mix."

The Blues academy product scored nine goals and provided the same amount of assists during the 2020/21 season in all competitions, which forced him into Southgate's plans this summer.
