Alan Shearer makes fresh top four prediction and changes his mind on title winners

Alan Shearer has backed Tottenham to pip rivals Arsenal to fourth position come the end of the season.

The Premier League's record marksman has revised his top four prediction after also changing his title pick.

Shearer had backed Chelsea to win the top flight for the first time since 2017.

However Thomas Tuchel's side have stumbled in recent weeks which has allowed defending champions Manchester City to race clear.

Pep Guardiola's said have won 11 straight games and look heavy favourites to win a fourth title in five years.

Below them the battle for fourth is hotting up with both north London clubs looking to hold off West Ham and Manchester United.

The Gunners have enjoyed a renaissance under Mikel Arteta following a poor start to the year.

However Shearer feels as if the arrival of Antonio Conte may prove decisive.

“Before a ball was kicked I did say Chelsea [to win the league] – I’m having severe doubts now,” he told Optus Sport.

“The run that Man City have been on, they’ve just been relentless and Pep [Guardiola] is just incredible, the way he keeps drilling out results and getting the best out of all of those players that he’s got.

“It’s difficult with so many good players because every good player wants to play every week and how he handles that is hugely important.

“So I’ll probably have to say Man City [will win] I don’t think anyone will beat them now.

“Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea… I’ve been really impressed with Arteta and Arsenal and how he’s handled things, but [Antonio] Conte going into Spurs and with Harry Kane and Son [Heung-min] up front, I think I might say Spurs into fourth position.”

Tottenham are yet to lose in the league since the Italian took over.

He has pedigree in England having led Chelsea to the title back in 2017.

Tottenham have missed out on the top four in each of the past two seasons and need the Champions League and the riches its brings.

There are no shortage of sides pushing for Europe's top table though with four points separating seventh from fourth.

Conte held showdown talks with Tottenham chiefs this week as they seek to bolster their squad in the January market.

The Italian's 3-4-3 system has seen them linked with Wolves' Adama Traore, who the Italian sees as an ideal wing-back candidate.

Conte has challenged Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to act on his transfer recommendations, stating the club would have “the last word” on transfers.
