Alan Shearer makes five-word Harry Kane and Son Heung-min prediction after Tottenham win

Alan Shearer has backed Tottenham pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to "smash" his Premier League record.

Both players were on the scoresheet on Saturday afternoon as Spurs beat Leeds United 3-0 to get back to winning ways in the top-flight of English football.

And it was a special day for the two forwards.

Kane's strike from the penalty spot to break the deadlock means he has now netted against all 30 sides he's faced in the Premier League, while Son now has 100 goals for Spurs across all competitions.

Tottenham trio’s Covid-19 breach was ‘a negative surprise’ – Jose Mourinho

Not for the first time this season the South Korea international's goal was assisted by Kane.

As a result, pair have now combined to score 13 Premier League goals so far this season – equalling a record which had stood for over two decades.

One that, according to Opta stats, was held by Shearer and Chris Sutton during Blackburn Rovers' title-winning campaign in 1994-95.

With 16 games of the 2020/21 season played, there's enough time for Kane and Son to not only claim the record outright but to also set a new one that may never be broken.

Unsurprisingly, Shearer is expecting the record to be shattered at some point in the coming months.

"My record is under threat? They’re going to smash it!" Shearer said on Match of the Day.

Shearer also praised the understanding between Kane and Son.

"That is elite. That is someone who is at the very top of his game," Shearer added. "The understanding between Kane and Son is just unbelievable."

Speaking after the game, Son revealed that he was 'quite sad' to have not assisted Kane for a goal that would have broken the record against Leeds.

"Obviously, I’m very happy and grateful and the team-mates that have supported me," he told BT Sport. "It’s not coming automatically, on my own, I need a lot of help for this big achievement and I’m really proud.

"I didn’t know that. To score 100 goals with one team, it’s big and I’m really proud and grateful. It’s a good thing to start the new year.

"We’re working hard and working through a long time, six years together, and we know each other really well. I’m a bit sad that I couldn't give an assist today to H. Harry always finds me so for my goal, he knew I was there. Obviously, the ball was perfect to me. Sometimes it’s telepathic, sometimes we’re talking about it."
