Alan Shearer makes Declan Rice admission following West Ham's Newcastle stalemate

Alan Shearer praised Declan Rice's performance against Newcastle United, calling his 90-minute display 'superb' and naming the midfielder in his team of the week.

Rice was instrumental in West Ham United's 1-1 draw against the Magpies on Saturday evening, constantly breaking down opposition attacks and launching ones of his own for his team-mates.

His performance led to manager David Moyes saying that if Rice left the club, the deal would smash the British record transfer of around £107million set by Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, amid speculation teams will make a move for the 24-year-old in the summer.

And when selecting his Premier League team of the week, the current all-time top scorer record holder pointed out how the England international was key to everything the Hammers did well at St James' Park.

"At the heart of everything good West Ham United did. Superb," Shearer said.

Alongside Rice, the BBC pundit picked Nottingham Forest's transfer deadline day signing Keylor Navas in goal as well as Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane who became his club's all-time scorer with his strike against Man City.

In midfield partnering Rice is Kane's team-mate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as well as Everton's Amadou Onana for his 'tireless display against Arsenal' and Wolves' Ruben Neves who 'crowned an excellent all-round performance with a well-taken goal against Liverpool.'

Alan Shearer Premier League Team of the Week: Keylor Navas (Nottingham Forest); Ben Mee (Brentford), Tim Ream (Fulham), James Tarkowski (Everton); Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham), Declan Rice (West Ham), Ruben Neves (Wolves), Amadou Onana (Everton), Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
