Alan Shearer issues Frank Lampard sack message to Roman Abramovich and Chelsea

Frank Lampard could be sacked by Chelsea following their heavy 3-1 defeat by Manchester City on Sunday, according to Alan Shearer.

Chelsea were blown away in the first half by City at Stamford Bridge with Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing side racing into a three-goal lead by the break.

The visitors looked streets ahead of Lampard’s side and Ilkay Gundogan produced a smart turn and finish to put them 1-0 up.

Phil Foden turned in Kevin De Bruyne’s cross to double their lead and it was three after just 34 minutes when the Belgian playmaker scored after Raheem Sterling hit the post on the break.

The hosts improved slightly in the second half as City entered cruise control to see the game out and Callum Hudson-Odoi finished Kai Havertz’s cross to grab an injury-time consolation, but the result saw pressure mount on Lampard.

Chelsea, who were being touted as title contenders in early December, are eighth in the Premier League after losing four and winning just one of their last six matches.

Lampard, who signed a three-year contract when he joined the club in July 2019, now has the worst record of any Blues boss since Roman Abramovich took over in 2003.

The 42-year-old has a win percentage of 49% and averages 1.67 points per game over 55 matches, placing him below Roberto Di Matteo, Claudio Ranieri and Andre Villas-Boas on the list of 12 permanent managers.

The situation is heightened by the fact that Abramovich shelled out over £200million in the summer to strengthen the Blues squad.

Havertz, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech were all signed, but haven’t made the sort of impact expected under Lampard.

Chelsea’s record of seven wins from 17 league games this season has left them off the pace of the top four and Premier League record goal scorer Shearer believes Lampard’s job could be under threat.

“It’s the kind of performance from Chelsea that gets the manager the sack,” Shearer told PLTV at half-time.

Lampard faces potential respite in the form of League Two side Morecambe in the FA Cup third round on Sunday before league games against Fulham and Leicester City.
