Alan Shearer is every Newcastle fan after frustrating Watford draw

Alan Shearer has echoed the thoughts of every Newcastle United fan as the Magpies failed to win at Watford.

Steve Bruce's side were guilty of squandering numerous chances at Vicarage Road and are still searching for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw.

Sean Longstaff's powerful long-range effort handed the visitors a deserved first-half lead on Saturday afternoon.

But United were made to pay for not capitalising on a number of presentable opportunities to double their advantage when Ismaila Sarr headed in the equaliser 18 minutes' from time.

Newcastle could have both snatched the victory and left empty-handed following a chaotic finish which saw both sides fashion opportunities for a winner.

The Magpies' looked to be holding on for a point when Jacob Murphy was released through on goal in added time, only for the winger to fluff his lines with an attempted dink straight at Ben Foster.

It is a draw which lifted United out of the relegation zone on goal difference following West Ham striker Michail Antonio's late winner at Leeds United.

However, it means Newcastle go into next weekend's clash at Wolves looking for their first success of the campaign at the eighth attempt.

It was a frantic finale at Vicarage Road in which the Magpies could have inexplicably slipped to a fourth league defeat in six matches.

However, there is no doubt Newcastle created enough chances to seal a comfortable win, and Shearer has summed up the display which could have kickstarted a sluggish campaign to date.
