Alan Shearer insists Joelinton has helped fire Newcastle to safety

Alan Shearer insists Joelinton has helped fire Newcastle United to Premier League safety.

The club record scorer has revealed his delight that the Brazilian record £40m signing got the goal "he deserved" on Sunday against Sheffield United.

Shearer, scorer of 206 goals for the Toon, says Steve Bruce's men are now looking up the table, and now have no fear of being relegated.

Shearer reckons Joelinton, who is now 258 Premier League goals behind him, deserved to notch the final strike in a 3-0 win.

Shearer told Coral: “Joelinton got his goal. He was slightly worried when he went through in the first half and fluffed that big chance but to his credit he kept going, kept getting into position, worked hard and got the goal he and Newcastle deserved and got the win.

“The three points that should banish any talk of relegation for Newcastle.

“It was a very good performance. We benefited from the sending off and rightly so, two yellow cards.”

Steve Bruce is ready to name an unchanged line up for the visit of Aston Villa on Wednesday.
