Alan Shearer hails 'magic' Allan Saint-Maximin following Newcastle United win

Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has hailed Allan Saint-Maximin for adding 'magic' to the club's attack following the victory over Burnley.

The French winger opened the scoring for the hosts before Callum Wilson's brace fired Newcastle to all three points, with Saint-Maximin a provider for one of Wilson 's efforts.

Victory fired Newcastle up to sixth in the Premier League standings, with the Magpies taking seven points from a possible 12 in their opening four matches of the new season.

While there is still plenty of work to be done over the course of the season, Shearer believes Saint-Maximin can continue to be a huge asset.

"He was brilliant tonight. He gives Newcastle something different. When they played in previous games, Brighton when he went off injured and Tottenham, they just didn't have that sprinkling of magic going forward," he told Premier League Productions.

"The unpredictability going forward, yes he will annoy you at times, but when he can play and perform like that, when he has that creativity and can finish off like he did for his goal, then he is a huge asset."

Newcastle's performance also attracted the attention of Patrick Kluivert, who commented on the club's Instagram post of Saint-Maximin setting up Wilson by stating 'congrats guys' along with a Toon Army hashtag.
