The Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has hailed the standards set by Liverpool and Manchester City this term, describing it as the best season in the competition's 27-year history.
City secured their second successive title on the final day of the season on Sunday after beating Brighton 4-1 at the AMEX.
That win meant the Reds were unable to leapfrog City to take top spot on the last day, despite their 2-0 win over Wolves at Anfield.
Liverpool took maximum points from their final nine games of the season, with City managing to string together a 14-game winning sequence to seal a 98-point haul to the Reds' 97.
And Shearer, who plundered 283 goals in the top flight for Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle, believes both clubs have scaled new heights this term.
"It's been an unbelievable season from both City and Liverpool ," he said on Match of the Day.

"Best season we've had in the Premier League since it started back in 1992.
"What they've given us has been nothing short of pure entertainment and it's been absolutely relentless.
"We said about seven or eight weeks ago, 'just wait until the pressure comes in the last couple of weeks of the season'.

"Both teams have shown none of that, they've just won week after week after week and it's just been incredible to watch."
Liverpool return to action on June 1 in Madrid when they meet Tottenham in the Champions League final.
