Alan Shearer gives Harry Maguire verdict following Manchester United's win over Leicester

Manchester United returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon thanks to a solid 1-0 win over Leicester City and Harry Maguire played a pivotal role.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the contest from the penalty spot but it was a strong defensive performance from the Red Devils which laid the platform for the victory.

Maguire was at the heart of the win just a few days after an indifferent display during England's seesaw 5-3 win over Kosovo, but the 26-year-old was much more assured at Old Trafford.

The clash with Leicester was expected to be a tough match during which United's defence could be exposed by a confident Foxes outfit who had gone through the opening four games unbeaten.

But the likes of Jamie Vardy was shut out during the encounter, with former England star turned pundit Alan Shearer heaping praise on Maguire.

"He (Maguire) was the best player on the park. Whatever Leicester tried, he was there," Shearer explained on Match of the Day.

"Whether it was getting his body in the way or winning headers, being first to the ball, being too quick and strong. He didn’t really give Jamie Vardy a kick."
