Alan Shearer explains why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be 'mad' at his Arsenal teammates

Premier League icon Alan Shearer believes that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be 'going mad' at Arsenal this season, despite sitting joint-second in the league's scoring charts.

The Gabon international play a key role in Monday's comeback victory against West Ham, scoring Arsenal's third goal in a 3-1 triumph that was their first win in eight league matches.

While that has provided Arsenal with a much-needed boost, a testing run of fixtures lies ahead against Manchester City, Everton, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Manchester United.

That could lead to further difficulties for the North London side and Shearer believes there could be a problem with Aubameyang, who has not been tied down to a new deal.

"It is just unbelievable. He is a top goal scorer. He must be going mad in that team. I know he's still getting goals, but he must be so frustrated," he told Optus Sport.

"The problem Arsenal have got with him now is that he's got 18 months left on his contract, they're going to have to make a decision about him.

"Because if he's not going to sign that contract they would have to sell him in the summer."

Speaking after the game, interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg praised Aubameyang and his teammates for their performance in the second half.

"The players did amazing. We had a game plan, we wanted to move the ball a lot," he said in his press conference.

"The first half we were slow, we were lethargic. We didn't move, we didn't run. That in my opinion comes from players who have low confidence and don't do it at the speed you need to.

"It's been hard on the players but I thought 'give it a go in the second half.' And they did that. It was amazing to see. We saw West Ham getting a bit tired around the 60th minute and we sliced them open. We played some really good football in my opinion, that's how we want to play.

"Of course we won't get carried away. We have a lot of work to do on things but all credit to the players for that they did."
