Alan Shearer explains why Man Utd star Mason Greenwood reminds him of himself

Alan Shearer has poured praise on Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood and claimed that the 18-year-old reminds him of himself.

The teenager scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season as the Red Devils saw off Bournemouth last time out.

Greenwood has been one of the finds of the season and Shearer, who remains the Premier League's all-time top scorer, has likened the way he strikes a ball to the technique he used.

The United forward has also been praised for being so two-footed and the Newcastle legend turned pundit has tipped him for the top.

He wrote in The Sun : "He can hit it with his left and hit it with his right equally well and there’s no nonsense, he just wants to shoot.

"He actually reminds me of what I used to do, shifting the ball on to the right foot before getting as much power as possible behind the shot.

"If he keeps going at this rate, he could emerge as a world star in the coming years."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a conscious effort to give academy talent a chance at Old Trafford.

The likes of Greenwood and full-back Brandon Williams have both excelled as a result.

And such performances could yet mean Gareth Southgate considers the teenager for England duty when next summer's Euros come around.

"In January, I tipped Greenwood as a wildcard for the Euros when they were due to take place this summer," Shearer added.

"And now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is ready to play for England.

"The postponement of Euro 2020 for a year could actually be a blessing for Greenwood and I’m sure Gareth Southgate will be watching closely."
